About
Mariam Kvashilava is a Georgian artist based in New York City. Working across painting, printmaking, and drawing, her practice explores themes of memory, identity, longing, and belonging. Through layered imagery and imagined narratives, she creates works that examine the emotional landscapes that shape our inner lives.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Kvashilava's work is informed by personal history, migration, language, and the relationship between memory and place. Figures often appear suspended between reality and imagination, occupying spaces that feel both intimate and dreamlike. Her process embraces experimentation, allowing materials, accidents, and repetition to become active collaborators in the making of each piece.
Kvashilava received her MFA from the New York Academy of Art and has exhibited in galleries, fairs, and artist-run spaces in the United States and internationally. Alongside her studio practice, she is the founder of To Myself Mail, a project centered on reflection, creativity, and meaningful connection through art, letters, and handmade objects.
Her work is held in private collections across the United States and Europe.
